CMA Presents "Exploration Through Innovation"
Space is a new realm of human activity extending from Earth orbit throughout the Solar System and beyond. From the beginning, JPL has been a center of innovation in expanding not only the physical frontiers of this new realm, but the technology, applications, and knowledge frontiers as well. There is a growing need for innovation in an era of more frequent missions, ranging from innovative mission concepts and spacecraft technologies to innovative sensors, operations, and processes. Dr. Stone will discuss the challenges and opportunities for JPL in the coming decade.
Dr. Edward C. Stone is Director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and a Vice President and David Morrisroe Professor of Physics at the California Institute of Technology. He is also Chairman of the California Association for Research in Astronomy and a director of the W. M. Keck Foundation. He has served as the project scientist for the Voyager Mission since 1972 and has coordinated the efforts of 11 teams of scientists in their studies of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Dr. Stone received the National Medal of Science from President Bush, the American Philosophical Society Magellanic Award, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Dryden Medal, the Space Science Award, and numerous other prestigious awards.
This event is open to CMA members and guests only.
