CMA presents "Dark Matter: The Universe through the Lens of Legendary Rapper GZA"

Wednesday, November 6, 2013
12:30pm to 1:30pm
Add to Cal
JPL
GZA, Hip Hop artist,

Listening to a lecture by Neil deGrasse Tyson reinforced a passion for space and science in GZA, a legend in the rap world, and one of the founding members of the seminal hip hop group the Wu-Tang Clan. Dubbed "The Genius" for his incredible ability to create powerful rhymes, GZA has recently been to science institutions around the world such as Harvard, Oxford, USC, MIT, NYU, and Cornell, where he has lectured and visited with marine biologists, geneticists, and quantum physicists to seek inspiration for his forthcoming projects about deep space and the deep ocean.

Please join us as we hear how GZA has been shaped by science and how his music might inspire the next generation to shape science. Please come early as 100 seats will be reserved for students from John Muir High School. Note: Personal photography or recording of any kind will be prohibited at this event. However, this event will be video recorded, and available for loan from von Kármán Auditorium.

This event is free. Because of the high level of interest, seating will be limited to members of the Campus and JPL communities, retirees, and students. Because of security requirements, individuals without JPL badges must have a JPL employee or resident affiliate submit a visitor request and be their escort. The same requirements apply to retirees with expired badges or who have badges that don't say "JPL Retiree Access." Foreign person visitor requests must be submitted at least four working days before the event; U.S. person visitor requests must be submitted at least two working days before the event. For assistance with Visitor Control or additional event information, contact David Delgado, at [email protected].
