Anousheh Ansari, world's first privately founded female space explorer,

On September 18, 2006, Anousheh Ansari captured headlines around the world as the first privately funded female space explorer. Anousheh also earned a place in history as the fourth privately funded explorer to visit space and the first astronaut of Iranian descent. She blasted off for an eight-day expedition aboard the International Space Station as part of the Expedition 14 crew of Soyuz TMA-9.

Back on Earth, Anousheh is an active proponent of world-changing technologies and social entrepreneurship. Her childhood dreams of space exploration were recently expressed by Anousheh and her family providing the title sponsorship for the Ansari X Prize. With the success of the X Prize suborbital passenger launch competition, she has helped launch a new era in private space flight.

Anousheh is a member of the X Prize Foundation's Vision Circle, as well as its Board of Trustees. She has received multiple honors (too numerous to list here). She also works to enable social entrepreneurs to bring about radical global change.

This event is free. All members of the Campus and JPL communities and retirees are welcome.
