Location: 1200 Getty Center Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90049

For 20 CMA members, we have arranged a VIP tour of the Science Department laboratories at the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI). The primary focus of the scientific research conducted at the GCI concerns the study and preservation of movable and immovable cultural patrimony.

GCI's scientific research falls within six general areas: Collections and Objects, Analytical Technologies, Environmental Studies, Preventive Conservation, Contemporary Art Research, and Inorganic Materials. Research projects span a wide range of topics, such as the development and evaluation of conservation treatments, studying the deterioration and protection of building materials, characterizing artists' materials, provenance studies, monitoring and mitigating air pollutants, advances in museum lighting, low-cost environmental control systems, and development of innovative test methods.

Since we anticipate that more people will want to attend than the limited space available (20 people maximum), we will conduct a lottery drawing of all the CMA members expressing interest in the tour. To participate in the lottery, you must be a current CMA member and submit your name by THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1. To enter your name in the lottery, send an e-mail to [email protected]. If you are not a member, go to http://cma.jpl.nasa.gov/membership.html for the membership form and payment procedure.

Lottery participants will be notified of the winners via e-mail, and winners' names will be posted to the CMA web site, at http://cma.jpl.nasa.gov/upcoming.html, on Friday, November 2. You need not be present to win (but to participate in the lottery, you must be a current CMA member by November 1).

This event is free. For more information about this event, please send e-mail to [email protected] or call Randii Wessen, (818) 354-7580.
