Chamber Music Recital: Piano + Friends

The best music is made with other people! Join Zach Erickson (piano), Sean Symon (violin), Dorothy Pan (flute) and Matt Davis (saxophone) for an evening of music written for piano and another instrument, with performances of Ludwig van Beethoven's "Spring" Sonata for Violin and Piano (1801), César Franck's Sonata for Flute and Piano (1886), and Paul Creston's Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano (1939).

Zach Erickson (piano) is a 5^th year PhD student in Geological and Planetary Sciences. He earned Bachelor's degrees in chemistry and music from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN and has played with the Caltech band, orchestra, and chamber groups. In 2016, he performed the Grieg Piano Concerto with the Caltech Orchestra and, with Pasadena singer Judy Gallego, took first place in the Piano+Voice division of the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition.

Sean Symon (violin) is a 5^th year PhD student in Aeronautics. He attended the University of Maryland with a double degree in Aerospace Engineering and French, and has played with the Caltech orchestra and numerous chamber groups. In spring 2017 he performed the third movement of the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Caltech orchestra, where he is co-concertmaster.

Dorothy Pan (flute) earned a doctorate in Chemistry from Caltech in 2016 and is currently finishing a M.D./Ph.D. degree at USC. She attended Stanford, where she majored in chemistry and played in the orchestra. She currently plays in the Caltech symphony orchestra, where in 2016 she performed the Nielsen Flute Concerto; with Caltech chamber music groups; and for kids in the hospital.
