The Caltech Symphony presents an afternoon of concerto movements featuring Caltech student soloists.

Cellist Joe Iverson will perform the first movement of Shostakovich's Cello Concerto. Joe is a third-year PhD student in Physics. He grew up in Iowa and attended the University of Chicago as an undergraduate. He plays in the Caltech Symphony and the Caltech Chamber Music program.

Pianist Jared Filseth will perform the first movement of Rachmaninoff's Third Piano concerto. Jared is a Junior majoring in Physics. He also participates in Caltech Chamber Music ensembles.

Violinist Sean Symon attended the University of Maryland with a double degree in Aerospace Engineering and French, and is in his fourth year at Caltech's PhD program in Aeronautics. He is Co-Concertmaster of the Caltech Symphony and plays in Caltech chamber music ensembles. He will play the third movement of Beethoven's Violin Concerto.

Hornist Jamie Sue Rankin is in her fifth year as a graduate student in Physics at Caltech, working in the Space Radiation Laboratory. For her undergraduate work, she received both a bachelor of science in physics and a bachelor of music in music composition from the University of Utah. She plays in the Orchestra, the Concert Band, and chamber music groups. She will perform Richard Strauss' Horn Concerto No. 1.

The concert opens with Mozart's overture to Cosí fan tutte.

This concert is free and open to the public, with no tickets or reservations required. Parking is also free.
