Engineering the Feeling of Thirst and the Sensation of Water
Yuki Oka, Assistant Professor of Biology, Division of Biology and Biological Engineering, Caltech,

Appetite represents an important basis of homeostatic regulation by driving animals toward goal-oriented consummatory behaviors. The neural basis underlying such innate behaviors, however, is largely unknown. We study fluid homeostasis as a model system to understand by which internal needs are translated into appetitive behaviors. In my talk, I will introduce contemporary neuroscience research tools and present recent findings to study how the brain detect internal state, controls the feeling of thirst, and drive water intake behavior.
