"Ask a Scientist" Earth Day Extravaganza

 A Free Pre-show Event Open to All!

At 6:00 p.m. outside of Ramo Auditorium, before the 8:00 p.m. performance of Dr. Keeling's Curve, climate scientists Josh Fisher and David Crisp from NASA/JPL will host an "Ask a Climate Scientist" event which will be broadcast live on Ustream with a web-chat! If you can't come to the event, join the "Ask a Climate Scientist" event via web-chat! The link http://www.ustream.tv/caltech will be open and unrestricted during the "Ask a Climate Scientist" broadcast, from 6:00 to 7:45. Citizens from all over the world can view the event, and tweet their comments and questions using hashtag #CaltechCO2.

At 6:30 p.m. a team of graduate students and scientists from Caltech and JPL will be using iPads and interactive apps developed at Caltech to engage audience and community members with surprising and fascinating aspects of climate change through interactive visuals, simulations, and more. Local favorites Ernie's Al Fresco food truck and Rose City Coffee will be on the scene!

Dr. Keeling's Curve is a great way to celebrate Earth Day and learn more about recent developments in climate science research! Actor and environmental activist Mike Farrell of M*A*S*H fame performs this one-person play about climate change. This riveting drama tells the story of Dr. David Keeling, who in 1955 became the first scientist to successfully measure CO₂ in the atmosphere. In fact, Keeling began by measuring CO₂ from a rooftop at Caltech where he was a postdoc!

The play will be followed by a dynamic post-show discussion when a panel of climate change experts from Caltech and JPL join Mike Farrell and playwright George Shea onstage.
