Bio: Alumna, Katie Homman, was a Caltech Biology Major class '04, but switched from an interest in pure research to health after involvement in service and the Caltech Y, and being awarded the Caltech Studenski summer scholarship to explore an alternate career path where she volunteered teaching nutrition classes in Guatemala. Improving Health so people can reach their full potential became her goal, leading first to Emory Public Health School before discovering an MD was a better personal fit. International and rural work and Latino health outreach remained a big part of her MD training at UC Irvine as a part of their PRIME-LC activism program, and her Emergency Medicine residency. Then becoming one of the first Fellows in Clinical Informatics allowed her to connect software, data, analytics and innovation-- something she personally believes is essential for the disruptive innovation of medical care and improving health worldwide.
