"Patrouille des Glaciers (PDG) is the oldest and most famous randonnee ski race, run every other year from Zermatt to Verbier under the shadow of the Matterhorn across the heart of the Swiss Alps. Almost 60 kilometers long and requiring 14,389 feet of climbing, PDG is described as "not just a race, it is a three-way human adventure, a journey through history, mountains, sport, friendship and emotion organized by the Swiss Armed Forces."
