Realizing the Benefits of an Academic / Industrial Collaboration During a Small Satellite Development
Professor Jens Eickhoff, Space Technology Innovation, Airbus,

This seminar provides a brief overview of the small satellite (1m3, 100kg) class under development at the University of Stuttgart, Germany on the achieved assembly completion and results of the environmental test campaign. It points out the challenges faced by the PhD team to implement such a challenging project—for both the satellite and the ground control infrastructure. The presentation explains the system engineering support provided by Airbus DS, Friedrichshafen, and the applied engineering methods to master the task. The presentation further highlights from an industrial perspective the intellectual property  benefits achieved from the satellite design being conceptualized as re-usable platform. Finally, an example for platform re-use and the roadmap for a constellation testbed are outlined.
