PASADENA—Markus Imhoof, the Swiss filmmaker who directed the Holocaust film The Boat is Full, will present his newest work at a special screening on the Caltech campus November 5.
Flammen im Paradies (Flames in Paradise) will be shown at 8 p.m. in the Baxter Lecture Hall. This will be the first general-public screening of the film in the United States. The screening is free and open to the public, and a discussion will follow.
The film, which is in French and Swiss-German with English subtitles, concerns a yuoung Swiss woman who travels to India for an arranged marriage with a missionary.
Imhoof was nominated for an Academy Award in 1980 for The Boat is Full, which concerned the reactions of individuals in a Swiss community to Jewish refugees fleeing the Holocaust. Imhoof has also directed several other feature films and documentaries.
