Davalos and Valencia, along with other colleagues who work at the maquiladoras, or export assembly factories, at the Mexican border, are activists at the Centro de Información para Trabajadoras y Trabajadores (The Workers' Information Center) in Tijuana and at the San Diego Maquiladora Workers' Solidarity Network. Together, they work to educate and promote awareness about the maquiladoras and workers, the impact of globalization on their border communities, and other issues affecting the workers, such as gender, labor, health, trade, human rights, housing, and social and environmental justice.
The Centro de Información is a nongovernmental advocacy organization of women and men from Baja California, Mexico, that concentrates on supporting workers' rights within the maquiladoras.
The San Diego Maquiladora Workers' Solidarity Network is a binational effort to support the struggle of Mexican workers in Baja California. Their mission is to promote the binational solidarity and communication between San Diego and Baja California workers.
