Catalytic Transformation of Strong s-Bonds: from New Cross-Coupling to Heterocycle Synthesis
Mamoru Tobisu, Associate Professor, Center for Atomic and Molecular Technologies, Osaka University,

The use of strong chemical bonds in catalytic reactions represents a formidable challenge in pure chemistry and would also be beneficial in applied chemistry for enabling strategic diversity in organic synthesis.  A series of catalytic reactions that can directly transform inert carbon‒oxygen, carbon‒carbon and carbon‒silicon bonds into an array of useful compounds will be presented.  These methods enable the functionalization of methoxy and cyano groups during the latter stages of multi step synthesis.
