Gundermann (2018)
Directed by
Andreas Dresen
Starring Alexander Scheer

Based on the true story of rock musician and composer Gerhard Gundermann (1955 – 1998) in East Germany (GDR) – He was not prominent in the West at that time. As a worker, miner, operator at a gigantic brown coal excavator in the Lausitz region, he felt it was his moral duty to be a member of the SED party and as an IM inform the Stasi of other's "unpatriotic" deeds. Life in the GDR was a challenge in almost all of its aspects. Yet, "Gundy's" artistry won out. The film won seven prizes at the German Lola 2019 ("Oscar") including best film and best actor for Alexander Scheer. One of the most realistic and sophisticated films made about life in the GDR.
