Design of protein structures, functions, and assemblies
David Baker, Professor, Biochemistry, University of Washington,

Naturally occurring proteins beautifully solve the challenges that arose during natural evolution.  Computational design holds promise for designing new proteins to address current problems in a wide range of areas.  I will describe the design of proteins which bind with high affinity and specificity to protein and small molecule targets; such designed high affinity binding proteins could have use as both therapeutics and diagnostics.  I will also describe the design of multicomponent self assembling nanoparticles which could provide the basis for next generation vaccine platforms and targeted delivery vehicles.
