Modeling of Chemically Reacting, Nonequilibrium Flows Using Particle Approaches
Deborah Levin, Professor, Aerospace Engineering, Penn State,

Modeling and simulation of hypersonic vehicle flight and materials, space exploration, and small satellite propulsion systems cover diverse research areas.  Numerical simulations of chemically reacting flows related to these research areas are often modeled using continuum formulations.  However, in the last few years, particle and kinetic approaches have begun to offer new insights into the complex gas dynamics and gas-materials interactions that occur in these aerospace systems as well as in non-traditional applications.  The seminar will provide an overview of the theory and methodology of particle approaches and present the highlights of recent developments.
