Why is it so hard to model sea ice?
Cecilia Bitz, University of Washington,

Sea ice components of global climate models have captured the basic thermodynamics and dynamics of sea ice for decades. While there have been two or more models with sea ice, they've disagreed on the sea ice response to climate forcing. Why do models disagree to such a large degree? To what extent is the response controlled by the physics of the sea ice component or the other components? I'll discuss these questions and others in my presentation, and propose ways models could be improved for climate simulation.
