Child Educational Center (CEC) Hosts Open House

January 03, 2017

January 5, 2017 – The Child Educational Center (CEC) welcomes families to an Open House for infants, toddlers, and preschool children on Saturday, February 11, from 9:30 – 11:00 am. This play-filled morning offers families the opportunity to experience the CEC's play- and nature- based curriculum, meet teachers and program directors, and explore the indoor and outdoor classrooms at the Oak Grove campus, near JPL and Hahamonga Park (140 Foothill Blvd., La Canada).

The Infant-Toddler and Preschool Programs at the CEC focus on each child's unique social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. The CEC's philosophy fosters child-initiated discovery, creative play and learning, healthy emotional expression, outdoor exploration, and the encouragement of inquisitiveness and wonder. CEC directors and teachers have child development expertise and professional training, and CEC programs have excellent teacher-to-child ratios, most exceeding state requirements.

For 37 years, the CEC has offered a research-based, whole-child approach in a unique learning environment designed for children ages eight weeks through grade six. The CEC is open to all community families and operates full- and part-time schedules. CEC programs utilize curriculum that is stimulating and challenging, as well as nurturing and supportive of each child's learning style. Outdoor play and exploration is an integral component of each day, encouraging children to develop knowledge and love of the natural world.

The CEC's School-Age Program offers stimulating, child-centered care for children in kindergarten through grade six at seven sites in La Canada and Pasadena. This program focuses on child-initiated discovery, outdoor learning and play, enriching activities, and homework support. Before- and after-school care is available at all La Canada public elementary schools, and an after-school program is provided at the Oak Grove and Caltech sites. The CEC works closely with schools to accommodate various school closures and holiday schedules. Transportation is provided from select local schools in Pasadena, South Pasadena, and Glendale, as well as Odyssey and Aveson charter schools in Pasadena. In addition, the CEC offers a Summer Exploration Camp for elementary children for nine weeks each summer, with special theme weeks, field trips, and more.

Enrollment for all programs is open year round, based on availability.

Location: 140 Foothill Blvd. La Canada, CA 91011
