Each year, Counseling Services presents the Emotional Well-Being Workshop Series to bring in mental health professionals from both on- and off-campus to discuss a wide variety of topics related to having a healthy emotional life. Each workshop will be on a Wednesday from 12:00 - 12:55 in Avery Library, and free lunch will be provided on a first-come basis.

On May 8th, Dr. Jon Pedersen will lead a workshop on how to make meaningful friendships. Having friends simply makes life easier and more enjoyable. But for some people and at certain times it can be difficult to make friends. In this talk, Dr. Pedersen will offer practical advice about how to go about this, based on many years of experience with Caltech students, and thoughts on what can get in the way. Please join us for this supportive talk on how to cultivate friendships as we go through life, and how difficult this can seem, at times.

Dr. Jon Pedersen received my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology. He worked as a staff psychologist for 12 years at Caltech Counseling Services and continues to see many Caltech students and staff in his private practice. He has pursued specific training in Mindfulness Practices, Contemporary Analytic Psychotherapy, Depth Psychology, and the Clinical Implications of Psychopharmacology. He has also offered training, for public and professional audiences, in Relaxation, Meditation, and Stress Reduction Techniques; Working with Dreams; Sexual and Gender Identity; Treating the Intellectually Gifted; and a number of other topics.
