DaVinci Camp Talk: The Role of STEM Education in a Successful Career
DaVinci Camp, the Caltech Y, and the Caltech Office of External Relations invite you to hear California Secretary of State, and MIT Electrical Engineering graduate, Alex Padilla share on the role of a STEM education in a successful professional career, including the impact in public service.
Padilla, the son of working class Mexican immigrants, previously served as a California State Senator who worked on legislation combating climate change, a member of the MIT Corporation (Board of Trustees), a member of the Los Angeles City Council—including 3 terms as Council President, the youngest member and first Latino to serve in that capacity—a President of the League of California Cities, and a President of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEAO). DaVinci Camp was started by Caltech alumnus Douglas Varela to eliminate the achievement gap among Latino students through innovative math instruction that integrates engineering, science, and the fine and performing arts.
This event is intended primarily for DaVinci Camp partipcants and members of the Caltech community.
