CPA Career Discussion: Research Career Outside of Academic Institutions

Interested in exploring careers beyond academia? 

National laboratories offer one exciting pathway. Join us for a semi-formal discussion with Dr. Jin Qian, Staff Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, to learn about career opportunities in the national laboratory system and how they compare with traditional academic careers.

Dr. Qian is a Caltech alumna who earned her PhD in Materials Science and Chemistry in 2019. She will share highlights from her research and career journey, from graduate school and postdoctoral training to leading independent research programs at a national laboratory. The conversation will explore topics such as career trajectories, transitioning beyond academia, opportunities and job prospects at national laboratories, funding, mentorship, and the skills and experiences that can help scientists pursue a variety of career paths.

This will be a relaxed, interactive discussion with plenty of time for questions and open conversation. This event is open for all Caltech students and researchers.
