Aaron and Claire record and perform in various combinations in Scotland, including as solos, as a duo and in their new group, Litha.

Aaron has also been a long-time member of the immensely popular Scottish group, Old Blind Dogs. Born in Poole, England, Aaron lives in Edinburgh, Scotland. He has toured the world with Old Blind Dogs, and now does most of their vocals. He is a fine singer and musician on bouzouki, bass and cittern.

They're both fine singers, both solo and in harmony, and their instrumentals run the gamut from lively to sad.

Imani is a Swahili word meaning "faith," and the Grammy-nominated Imani Wind Quintet has long shown its faith in the future of classical music by commissioning new works from many of today's composers, including Imani's own flutist, Valerie Coleman, whose Tzigane was inspired by the music of the Romani (gypsy) people. Joining the Quintet is pianist Anne-Marie McDermott, of whom BBC Music Magazine said "McDermott's heart has heft and translucence, structural certainly and seasoned humanity."

Granular materials are ubiquitous in nature and, after water, are the second most manipulated materials on earth. Deceivingly simple at the grain scale, these materials are composed of individual partiles that collectively display complex behavior controlling the onset of macroscopic phenomena, such as earthquakes, landslides and planetary morphology. The Escher String Quartet draws inspiration from the art of M.C. Escher, where individual components work together to form a whole. Founded in 2005, the Quartet took the musical world by storm, becoming quartet-in-residence at The perlman Chamber Music Program in New York and The Young Artist Programme in Canada. Since then, the former BBC New Generation Artists have performed worldwide, from New York's Carnegie Hall and Lincoln  Center to The Louvre in Paris and Hangzhou Grand Theatre in China.

Peter Gros has nearly 30 years of field experience with captive wildlife. In his former position as Director of Land Animals and vice president at Marine World/Africa USA, he established breeding programs for 377 endangered animals. He also developed a rehabilitation program for birds of prey, as well as the largest captive breeding colony of ostriches in the United States.

This concert celebrates 30 years of Caltech Folk Music Society concerts by presenting the very first performer who appeared on the series. Joanna Cazden's music was an inspiration to series founders Brian Toby and Simon Davies, and she returns to Caltech after a long absence (her last show was in 1998) for a generous set of her best originals, and a few folk and Yiddish classics. The San Andreas and similar faults separate two tectonic plates slowly moving in opposite directions. The faults can remain locked for many years, then catch up in sudden dramatic rupture events perceived as earthquakes. These occasional fast motions co-exist with much slower fault slips. This talk will describe how laboratory-derived friction laws and sophisticated numerical models can reproduce, in remarkable detail, all stages of past fault behavior - locked, slowly moving and earthquake-producing - bringing us closer to understanding earthquake physics.

Members of the Endellion String Quartet are evangelists, as well . . . but by no stretch of the imagination can they be called reclusive. David Mallett is best known as the composer of The Garden Song, a song so well known that it is often thought of as a traditional song. David has written many other fine songs that haven't received the attention that this one has, but he is a great songwriter, indeed. He has appeared on the Caltech Folk Music Society series twice before. David hails from a small town in northern Maine, and in a career that spans four decades, his music has traveled to all corners of the world.

While bouncing on his big boy bed, Skippyjon's wild imagination takes over again as he catches his reflection in a mirror. "Holy guacamole," Skippyjon exclaims. "My ears are too big for my head, my head is too big for my body. I am not a Siamese cat – I am a CHIHUAHUA!"

This includes both modern environments, as well as ancient environments represented by the Gale crater landing site. The Curiosity rover has a designed lifetime of approximately two Earth years and drive capability of at least 20 km. They are currently working on a new recording, so they have plenty of new songs and many great ones from before.
