The Gold Medal of the American Institute of Chemists (AIC) has been awarded to Jacqueline Barton, the Arthur and Marian Hanisch Memorial Professor of Chemistry and chair of the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
The lectureship, awarded from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) and the Associated Universities, Inc, is named for Karl Jansky, a pioneer in the field of radio astronomy and the first to detect radio waves from a cosmic source.
Sean Carroll, a research professor of physics, was awarded the mid-career fellowship, which recognizes those who have "demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts."
Professor of English Kevin Gilmartin, who has taught at Caltech for the past 24 years, was honored with the prize that recognizes a Caltech professor annually for demonstrating an "unusual ability, creativity, and innovation" in teaching.
PhD candidate Mohamad Abedi has received a Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans. Abedi and 29 other fellows were selected "for their potential to make significant contributions to US society, culture, or their academic field."
