Stolper Interim President Beginning July 1

This morning the Caltech Board of Trustees unanimously agreed to appoint Edward Stolper to the role of interim president, effective July 1, 2013. He will assume the post from Jean-Lou Chameau, whose last day as president of Caltech will be June 30, 2013.

Recipients of the 2010 Thomas W. Schmitt Annual Staff Prize

At this year's Staff Service Award Ceremony, Caltech honored over 200 staff members with service ranging from 10 to 40 years. The Thomas W. Schmitt Annual Staff Prize was awarded to three staff members this year—Nils Asplund , Dlorah Gonzales, and Mike Walsh. The award recognizes staff members "whose contributions embody the values and spirit that enable the Institute to achieve excellence in research and education."

55th Annual Staff Service Awards

This year the Caltech community celebrates 55 years of staff service awards, with the annual ceremony slated for Thursday, June 3, at 10 a.m. in Beckman Auditorium. That day 242 staff members will be honored for their 4,070 collective years of service.

Attorney Brigitte Bren, cofounder of International Strategic Planning, and Louis J. Lavigne Jr., retired executive vice president and chief financial officer of Genentech, have been elected to the Board of Trustees of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).

Four Elected to Caltech Board of Trustees

Robert C. Bonner, senior partner of Sentinel HS Group LLC; John S. Chen (MS '79), chairman, chief executive officer, and president of Sybase Inc.; and Peter D. Kaufman, chairman and chief executive officer of Glenair Inc. have been elected to the Board of Trustees of the California Institute of Technology. Gil I. Elbaz (BS '91) has also been elected to the board as a Young Alumni Trustee. The announcement was made by Jean-Lou Chameau, president of Caltech.

Richard Merkin, M.D., founder and chief executive officer of Heritage Provider Network, has been elected to the California Institute of Technology Board of Trustees. The announcement was made today by Caltech president Jean-Lou Chameau.
