Financial Experts to Share Their Wisdom with Caltech Community

Do you want to be more financially savvy or get on the right track for retirement? Do you have questions about the current economic climate? Or maybe you just want to gain a better understanding of stocks, bonds, and commodities. There's help to be found at a discussion and informational session with financial experts right here on campus.

On Monday, May 7, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in Ramo Auditorium, Dean Currie, Caltech's vice president for business and finance, will moderate a panel discussion featuring Roger Ferguson, president and CEO of TIAA-CREF; Scott Richland, Caltech's chief investment officer; and Panda Hershey, senior director and member of the Natural Resources and Infrastructure team for TIAA-CREF.

Following an introduction by Caltech's president Jean-Lou Chameau, the panel will answer questions submitted by the Caltech community on topics ranging from saving for retirement, traditional versus alternative investments, investment goals for different age brackets, and how this year's presidential election and the political climate abroad will impact global financial markets. 

Immediately after the event, there will be a reception with refreshments and a resource expo where attendees can win prizes, take home giveaways, and pick up materials from the Science of Benefits workshops—the eight-part financial education series that kicked off this past October with well-known finance expert Suze Orman's visit to campus.

In addition, financial advisors from TIAA-CREF will be available to answer questions and schedule one-on-one meetings, and a representative from Operation Hope—a Los Angeles–based organization that seeks to expand economic opportunity in underserved communities through economic education and empowerment—will be on hand to share expertise and insight.
