Interim President

Dr. Edward M. Stolper has served as Caltech's interim president since July 1, 2013. He was appointed by a unanimous vote of the Caltech Board of Trustees, to fill the position previously held by Dr. Jean-Lou Chameau, while the faculty and Board of Trustees search for Dr. Chameau's permanent successor.

Upon announcing Dr. Stolper's appointment, Board Chair David Lee said, "When we considered who could best guide Caltech through this period, we immediately thought of Ed; he is uniquely positioned to lead the Institute during this time of change."

Dr. Stolper arrived at Caltech in 1979 as an assistant professor of geology and served in various leadership roles, including division chair of GPS (1994–2004) and interim provost (2004), before being named Caltech's ninth provost in 2007. He continues to serve as provost during his time as interim president.
