Caltech Y Friends Dinner with Dr. Yu-Chong Tai
The New Caltech Andrew and Peggy Cherng Department of Medical Engineering: How We Like to Change The World
A look around most clinics and hospitals reveals the pervasive nature of devices and systems engineering in medicine, ranging from drug delivery and monitoring to diagnostics and imaging. However, current engineering in medicine is still far from adequate. New medical technologies and solutions are continuously demanded. To effectively address these increasingly challenging and complex needs, in 2013 the Medical Engineering (MedE) at Caltech was formally established. Join us as Dr. Tai describes MedE's unique approach to translational, or "bench-to-bedside," medicine. This includes building a culture of collaboration between different academic departments, establishing strong external connections to the medical community, and taking advantage of Caltech's commitment to basic science as a stepping stone to finding fresh avenues to developing diagnostic tools, medical devices, and treatment options to translational medicine.
